How to Quit Smoking- no if, ands, or butts

No need for a long review here. About the first three quarters of the book is spent exploding various myths and delusions about smoking (such as smoking relaxing you or getting rid of stress), which sets you up and gets you into the right frame of mind for actually quitting.

At this point, the book wants you to continue smoking while you read it.

In a nutshell, the easy way to stop smoking involves two things: one, deciding you are never going to smoke again, and two, don't mope about it anymore, rejoice.

Sounds too simple, but after reading the first part of the book, this strategy will make more sense to you.

Lastly, the book cites two main reasons why you will fail: the influence of other smokers, and having a bad day.

Having been around for 20 some years and being able to refine it with twenty years of feedback, I feel like this is one of the better books out there on non-smoking.

I Quit Smoking!!!!!

I read this cover to cover right out of the box -- pack a day for 10 years, plus 6 years before that with a 3 year "break" in the middle. Believe me, I went into this thinking no way is this book going to do it. I didn't even want to quit! I really just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Well, wow, fuss away!

First off, it is not a scare tactic book. In fact it addresses why scare tactics only make people smoke more. It's more about talking about the reasons why people THINK they smoke, why those reasons are illusions, the reasons people REALLY smoke, and how those things are easily overcome. The book terms it a sort of de-brainwashing.

By half-way through the book I never wanted another cigarette again, but it tells you to keep on smoking until you finish the book. There was a point in the book where it specifically said to light up, so I did. Finished the little experiment and didn't even want to smoke the whole thing. I ate dinner directly after finishing the book, realized that I had the "need" for a cigarette as usual after dinner, and then I realized I didn't NEED anything at all but to do the dishes.

All I can say is that I feel free after just one day. The book works, the ideas are simple and easy. You cannot spend a better $15 for your health.

When are committed to quit, this book will make it happen

My wife tried every technique including the LungUSA program (Freedom from Smoking), counselors, the gum, willpower, etc. I came across this book in the mall, she read it, and quit.

And she did it decisively.

Don't buy this for someone you want to quit -- reserve it for when they are committed and struggling and need something to help them. The psychology is subtle but highly effective. I even bought a copy to put in the public library. It begs the question -- why hasn't it become popular here already?

Another happy ex-smoker checking in

I quit after 40 years of smoking at least one pack a day, and it was just as easy as Allen Carr said it would be. I think the key is to give in and accept what Carr is telling you.

I didn't think I was ready to quit. I thought I enjoyed smoking, and some days, a cigarette was my only incentive to get out of bed. I had bought the book on a whim, for some day far off in the future when I'd be "ready" to quit. I had bought a carton of cigarettes on Saturday, and then on Sunday I was bored and decided to read the book. Had my last cigarette before I was halfway through. Next morning at work, a friend asked me if I was ready to go outside for a smoke break and I said "Well, I don't smoke anymore, but I'll go outside with you."

No withdrawal pangs, just a feeling of relief that I didn't have to smoke any more, and that it wasn't going to be hard at all. All the smoking triggers that I worried about -- car trips, after meals, phone calls, stressful times at work or at home, leaving work and lighting up, having a beer at the bar -- none of those things triggered the urge. The urge is gone.

Wish I had found the book earlier.

The original and still the best

In fact, since its original publication, Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking has sold over two MILLION copies, placing it alongside the world's most successful best-sellers.

Since Allen Carr wrote The Easy Way to Stop Smoking, there have been many inferior copies - people who have just added an extra little twist here, or a shake there. Essentially, they are all admitting that Carr's system works. They are all bowing to the master who, over twenty years ago, realized that the addiction to cigarettes was as easy to stop as making the decision to have dinner... as long as you understand why it was never that easy before. Essentially, Carr points out that all that is stopping us is our FEAR of stopping - our FEAR that we're going to spend the rest of our lives craving a cigarette. He bunks the myth, then helps us face the decision to quit.

AND IT WORKS (this from someone on three packs a day for the last 35 years!). Why am I so sure I've got it beat this time? Because I'm not struggling with a will-power problem (there's very little will-power involved), I'm not missing my old habit (there's nothing worth missing), and I'm not snacking to find a substitute (no substitutes are allowed - or needed).

Sounds too good to be true? Don't believe it. Go get this book wherever you can (remember, it's easily available on the .uk and .fr sites), and QUIT NOW.

The TRULY easy way!

This book is AMAZING! I started smoking when I was 13 (I turned 25 twenty days ago and quit a week before that) and have quit numerous times. Of course, as they say, "quitting is easy, it's staying quite that's hard." Most of these attempts only lasted a day or two, and every time I started again I felt like such a weakling. Once, I quit for four months, only to break down in a time of stress, picking up right where I left off. After reading Easy Way, I quit without feeling like I was losing something from my life. I actually have waited a month to write a review just to make sure that the program worked. I've never had an easier time quitting or staying quit. Allan encourages readers to smoke until they finish the book, which I think was very important for me. Being "allowed" to continue actually made me eager to stop; I threw the rest of my pack away before finishing. Allan also doesn't discourage you from thinking about cigarettes, which I do. BUT I think about them in a "thank God I don't smoke anymore!" way. On occasion (maybe 3 times) I've wanted a cigatette, but through the positive techniques and patterns established in the book (not to mention actually seeing the tar in my phlegm a week after I quit) helped me say no. I can't believe such an effective method is only $15! I've tried hypnosis and Nicorette, cold turkey, prayer and willpower, but nothing has been this effective. Strangely, nothing in the book is particularly revolutionary, it's the presentation, occasional repetition and tone that really provided the break-through. I haven't gained any weight (in fact, I think I've lost some)and my persistant acne is nearly gone. I look younger, my clothes don't stink, and I don't always have to leave my friends or the party to go out and smoke. Yay!

Update: November 2007: Still smoke free and happy! This book is also great if you have a relapse.

I don't know how and I don't know why but...

It worked for me too. I am EIGHT months "smober" this month and I don't miss the evil weed one bit. The first few weeks were a bit difficult but not nearly as difficult as pre-Allen Carr. I was a former pack a day smoker for at least 15 years and I too had tried everything else under the sun.

Just give it a try with an open mind. It is repetitive and it does tell you lots of stuff you already know. Don't worry about it. Just read it. Sometimes it seems silly. It doesn't matter. Just read it. Smoke to your hearts content while doing it, but read it.
-By A. Roybal "WanderLust" (USA)

Amazing... Embarrassing

It is true, after reading the book I found it easy to quit. In fact, at some point it is difficult to keep on smoking until reading the entire book (as Allen recommends). Reading this book and recognizing oneself, it becomes so embarrassing to keep on smoking that quiting becomes fun.

A Brilliant, Brilliant Book

This book is utterly brilliant.

I smoked for 15 years and heard about this book from a friend. At the time this book was only available in England and Canada. I read the book and was immediately hooked. Carr's words are so powerful and persuasive. It is amazing that such a short book can transform someone's life from a dependency to cigarettes to a life free of smelly breath, coughs and potential lung cancer.

I persuaded my fianc to read it (and he loved smoking and had no intention of quitting). After he finished reading it he stopped smoking too. We have both been non-smokers for 1.5 years. We very rarely even think about smoking.

I am so glad to see that this book is available in the States. I can now continue to tell smokers all about this book, but instead of lending them my book they can now buy it for themselves.

I stopped smoking! No pain, no cravings and NO weight gain!

I was very sceptical of this book, but read it after two of my friends read it and quit. I can tell you right now -it works. You quit without any cravings, any pain, any weight gain.

There is no sensationalism -nothing about lung cancer, strokes and the usual fear tactics used to try and stop people from smoking (hey -they don't work anyway!).

By the end of this book, something inside you will have shifted, you will throw away your cigarettes without a backwards glance -free at last, forever.

Rest in Peace, Allen

Just saw that the author passed away (November, 2006)

Wow. That's freaky. I just found out about this guy two months ago...saw his book on quitting smoking (I don't smoke, never have, but was curious about his claims). I thought it was pretty wild that a book about quitting smoking had over 100 reviews on Amazon and had five stars. I figured: come on, at least half these people must have bought the book, read it, and then went back on the weed within two weeks. But five freakin' stars? So I bought the thing, figuring that whatever he was saying probably was useful in other domains. It came in the mail, I read it late one night about a day or so after I got it, and quit drinking soft drinks the next day. Haven't had one Coke in 6 weeks. You have to understand, for the past 30 years, I've been drinking somewhere between 50-80 ounces of Coke per day (and with the subsequent weight gains). Now, I'm just not interested. I thought it would be a big struggle, but now I see the stuff and think, eh, no thanks. Within two weeks I was pulling my belt buckle in two extra notches - and that's after making no other dietary changes. But now, six weeks later, I'm finding myself eating more fruits and vegetables and not so drawn to other sugars, too. Bizarre - all from a no-smoking book.

If for no other reason, I'd pick the book up if you have an interest in reading how to present a persuasive argument - that really seems to be the real strength of his "system".

Happy Anniversary to Me...One Year and Counting...

The others who have written here go into great detail about this book and what it does. All I can add is that if you actually want to quit - that's important - this is the way to do it. I'd been smoking a pack-and-a-half for 20 years. Like others here, I read this book when it came in the mail and stopped the same day. That was 6/26/2004. I haven't lit up since.

Not a single puff.

I cannot recommend this highly enough. Out of all the products I've ever come across - this book is the most authentically helpful. He explains neatly, clearly.

And I quit. Not a puff in a year. No yearnings. No pain.

If you want to quit: Do it.

Update: 12/8/07: Still not a puff. 2.5 years.

Four Years and Counting...

For over 30 years, I was a pack-a-day plus smoker and even more on the weekends when having a beer. I read Allen Carr's book and became a non smoker right then and there. Easy as pie! His book is so logical and convincing! It is four years later and I have never had the desire to smoke in all that time. It is truly worth the money. Thank you Mr. Carr! I am free from the chains of smoking!!

I Am a Non-Smoker

I am a Non-Smoker. After 35 years of smoking I thought I would never be able to say those words. I never ever tried quitting before, but after I read all these Amazon reviews, I said what the heck, check it out. But it's true! After finishing this book on October 12, 2007 - I have not had, nor wanted a cigarette.

Yes, it took me a while to actually finish the book (coz I knew it would work and I was afraid to quit for a while). I know I will never go back to smoking. I'm done. I did not turn into a smoking-Nazi or a goody two shoes. I can be around smoke/smokers, no problem. I still enjoy my coffee, fine meals & cocktails, no temptation. Yes I gained a bit of weight, but I can lose it. I know there's a health benefit, but I feel no different than before. I just don't smoke anymore.

What the book does in the main -- it's a form of self-hypnosis (it's purposely repetitive, stay with it) along with some myth-debunking. Different parts will resonnate with different people, but all smokers will identify with the fear of Not being able to smoke. The fear is heightened as more places become non-smoking, making actually-smoking all the more precious. The book will help you overcome this and other fears.

Also key for me is the book exposes the scam & profit-making of the "Stop Smoking Industry." These people (including the pharmaceuticals) are making big money on the fact that their methods FAIL, and then you have to buy more of whatever they are selling. Don't buy/use any "substitutes!" You must totally withdraw from nicotine and the other stuff you are addicted to in your cigs because you must close down those corresponding receptors in your brain. You cannot do it gradually because your body will compensate and try to maintain its status quo. "You quit by quitting." Period.

Finally, what Carr says is true -- complete withdrawal is NOT that bad! We've been sold a bill of goods by profiteers re: "tougher to quit than heroin." It's like a flu. Everyone has suffered a flu. Maybe even had to take to bed for a couple of days if it's a bad one, but usually not even that. Just think of it like a flu -- and just like when your flu breaks, smoking will be gone from your life forever.

I was in a slave relationship with my cigs, and didn't even realize it. The freedom I have now is amazing! (I still have a few cartons of Virginia Slim Menthols left if someone wants to buy them.) Now - I just have to remember to take breaks at work & play, now that the Cig is not nagging at me to take a "cig break." How's THAT for a problem! LOL

AN EX_SMOKER BY PAGE 166.....

I was very skeptical that any book could do what everyone is saying about this one.....but, I was willing to try anything to quit smoking.

I've been a smoker for nearly 35 years, and I'm stunned at how easily I was able to quit.....

I cannot explain what happened, but by the middle of page 166, I knew I was an ex-smoker - never to touch a cigarette again. Call it an epiphany, an "Aha!" moment or whatever - but such a feeling of euphoria came over me and I knew I had just quit smoking forever.

The curious thing is that when the thought of a cigarette now enters my mind, I laugh a little immediately followed by a broad grin and overall giddy feeling knowing that I don't need it - and I let out an enthusiastic "Oh yeah!".

I just bought two more copies to give to a couple of friends, since I'm convinced the book will help them and I have no intention of parting with my copy.
-By Prolific Reader (NY, USA)

Buy it!

I knew four people who read the book and they all quit. Most impressive though was that they were not suffering over it -- they were happy and carefree! I was scared to death to even read the book and did not want to quit at all, but my doctor told me to. Well, now I know five people who have read the book and quit. The book does not scare you into stopping with health warnings. Instead, one by one, it removes all the fears you have about stopping. (I won't enjoy myself at a party... I'll gain weight...I'll be miserable forever...) Once you lose all those fears, it really is easy to stop. It's been over a year now and I know I will never smoke another cigarette. Thank you Allen Carr!
-By Fellow shopper (Westfield, NJ)

The only book I've seen on Amazon with no rating below four stars

Allen Carr knows your pain. He has walked the walk. This is the first completely sensible advice I have ever seriously taken to heart about how profoundly stupid it is to smoke, even casually (if there is such a thing--I now know there is not!) I've read the book over and over again and haven't touched or craved a cigarette since. The problem is that smokers are reluctant to read this book. They fear it. They won't touch it. It was sent to me by the publisher and it sat on my desk for months before I actually cracked it open. Then it took a few more months for me to read it. I wish I had received this book when I was in my twenties, rather than thirties. I could have saved myself a decade of smoking! Please buy this book. It will save your life.
-By Gina Pell (San Francisco, CA United States)

Hey, thanks for I dunno, SAVING MY LIFE

Okay, that may be a bit hyperbolic but it's true. Two months since I finished the book and not a single day passed where I wanted a cigarette. Indeed, any time the thought of my disgusting, long gone, former habit comes to mind, I think of how I must help spread the word of this incredible book. The main problem facing smokers is not the physical, but the psychological addiction to nicotine. After a couple of days your body physically no longer needs nicotine and you can be done with it right then and there. But, your mind is not yet done with it. There's a fog (or a cloud of smoke, more aptly) in the heads of smokers that obscures the real reasons why they smoke. This book goes in and effectively de-brainwashes you. No one smokes because they really enjoy it, no one does it to really look cool, no one wants to die a horrible, painful death. So you don't have to. Buy this book and you're free of the addiction forever. No scare tactics, no patches or gums, NO BS! Just plain common sense. We are all reasonable individuals and Allen Carr simply talks out of ever wanting it again. Basically the only pleasure ever felt from smoking is the relief of agony. Like if you banged your head against the wall. When you stop, you don't suddenly feel good. What you feel is the relief that comes from the pain going away. The nicotine trap is exactly the same thing. I know I won't smoke again anymore than I'd do PCP or lay down in busy traffic. Wouldn't you love to have that unwavering self confidence that you'd never do it again? Read the book!

Does it work? You bet it does...

I was a smoker for 12 years, easily at a pack a day. The only method I had personally tried was the patch and gum techniques. They both didn't work for me. It was a short period of time before I was back to the cigs again. I was getting nervous because I really didn't want this to continue, and was fearing I didn't possess the willpower to really do something about it. Someone recommended this book to me, and I immediately thought "a book? come on.."

This is what I will say. This book is for people who are ready to quit. Before you waste your money on patches, gum, "zapping" your ear, hypnotism, counseling...try the book! It's certainly much cheaper!!

I know what youre thinking, because I was too. Whats the book say? Whats the "secret" message? There isn't. But there's also no scare tactics, and no charts about how much you'll save in the long run. Just plain talk thats effective and a new way of thinking about smoking. The book has been effective for everyone i've met and followed it.

I smoked while I read the book, and took my time reading it. When I was done, I put out my last cigarette. If youre ready to quit, or know someone that's ready, pick up the book. Good luck, but it's not as difficult as you think. You'll see.

I'm free forever!!!

Being a heavy smoker for 12+ years, I've tried everything to give up including patches, gums, hypnotherapy....practically everything. I stopped smoking only 4 days ago and prepared myself leading up to the day by acknowledging I would be severally restricting myself from social activities in the coming weeks, especially anything involving alcohol which was the main instrument of my demise in most previous attempts. Then I stumbled upon this book at the local store and thought it wouldn't kill me to see what this guy had to say.

Well, I can honestly say that I have never really experienced a paradigm shift in my life before, but as a previous reviewer also confirmed, at some point in reading this book I just *KNEW* I would never smoke again. Allen Carr removes a blindfold that all smokers (casual, normal or heavy) have over their eyes since that first moment they inhaled this highly addictive drug. Don't assume that all he does is brainwash the reader into being so highly motivated that they'll overcome their withdrawal symptoms.

That's what I initially thought the book would be about. Allen gets to the core of why people get hooked on this highly addictive drug, and clearly explains how it manipulates the mind into believing that you *need* nicotine, and this dependence is all in your mind and easily overcome once you understand it's power over people.

It's very difficult to explain how he does this, but you just have to take my word that once you read this book you'll;
  • feel it's ridiculously EASY to give up smoking
  • pity other smokers instead of envying them
  • not have to rely on Nicotine Replacement Therapy (gums, patches etc)
  • not worry about putting on weight or rely on other things to keep your mind off smoking
  • not change ANY of your social life
Amazingly for me, 1 day after reading this book and day 3 into my new freedom from smoking, I went out drinking with friends in which most of whom were smokers and not ONCE did I come close to having any sort of craving whatsoever!! In fact I found it very amusing to watch them all smoking and felt sorry for them so much so that I went and bought several more copies of the book to hand out. Drinking alcohol within 1 week during my previous attempts of giving up would have meant certain doom for me, but not this time.

Do yourself a favour and buy this book if you are serious about giving up this terrible addiction. You have absolutely nothing to lose, and so much to gain from it.
-By M. Wilson (Melbourne, Australia)

Well, it's been a year...

I bought this book shortly after quitting on Father's Day last year and told myself I'd come back to write a review after 1 year. I had been a smoker for about 18 years and tried gum, Welbutrin and cold turkey quits with no luck... usually not lasting more than 1-2 weeks. This book is exactly what I needed and saved me a couple thousand dollars this year :)
-By M. Turton (Covington, KY USA)

Life saver

There isn't much I can say that hasn't been said already. This book saved me from daily chest pains that plagued me for nearly three years, and for that I am eternally grateful to Allen Carr. Although I found this gem 11 years after I started smoking, I feel blessed that it passed through my hands and opened my eyes to exactly why I couldn't escape from this dangerous substance before.

For me, putting down my last cigarette wasn't as easy as what some of the other reviewers have posted here on Amazon. It was a tremendously difficult process that required reading this book couple of times more and "quitting" three times during that hellish time span. The turning point was when I started repeating to myself one of the most powerful phrases in the book: "there is no such thing as just one cigarette." This phrase and the chapter that explains what it means effectively ingrained into my mind that a single innocent puff can and will lead to a lifetime of misery.

If you're a smoker who wants to quit, but have found little success, I do feel for you. It's tough. I pray that this book of wisdom can turn your life around as it did for me. Good luck!
-By B. Shin (SoCal, USA)

I quit smoking a year ago today...

...without the use of sticky patches, gross and nauseating and heart-burn inducing gums, tampon-applicator-resembling inhalors, therapy, drugs, hypnosis, herbal remedies, or the like. In fact, when I bought my last pack of cigarettes was when I stopped spending money completely on smoking or anything related to it. I had smoked since I was 14 and by the time I was 25, it held no pleasure. It was something that had to be done, a monster to be fed. The one thing I liked about this book initially was that it promised me I could quit smoking by simply not smoking and nothing more and that I was not a weak addict who needed further crutches to compensate for not smoking.

It wasn't a total cakewalk the first few weeks what with growing up in a house of smokers and having friends and a spouse who smoked but I did not regret my decision to quit or change my mind. I did not get irritable or cranky or shaky. I did not become dependent on gum or candy or any expensive nicotine replacement gimmicks.

Read this book and then look at the cigarette your smoking. When you see the little thing, you'll realize that it really doesn't have any actual power over you. Everyone who has quit with this book has Carr to thank for their lives, physically and psychologically.

This book is not the willpower method. Willpower is not desire; willpower is what you use to endure something you do not want to do and would not do if given the opportunity. It takes willpower to survive a severe beating or the torture of chemotherapy. If one wants to quit, why does one need willpower? After all, it's physically quite easy to quit smoking. If you don't believe me, do something like get addicted to morphine post-surgery, take SSRI's for a few years or snort cocaine and then quit cold turkey. You'll know what real withdrawal is like then.

You will truly and wholly want to quit smoking without crippling doubts or fears after reading this book. You won't need willpower to quit and stay quit and you won't go through that dreaded, make-believe physical withdrawl that the nicotine replacement market is built upon.

Carr was a smoker for many years and he can sympathize with you. You are not weak-willed, stupid or neurotic. This book is not a personal pep rally or a tongue-lashing and thank Zeus not a rehashing of all the health and personal dangers we'd otherwise have thrown in our faces daily. What this book does is help make clear the reasons why you smoke, the reasons why you want to quit, the reality of smoking and the nature of the addiction to cigarettes so that you can build up the confidence to permanently put aside something that, in reality, you have total control over and don't need.

My advice: do not breeze through the book, pay full undivided attention while reading, even if that means it takes you longer to finish the book or you may very well not succeed in quitting.

Also, I've noticed that people who use this book to quit tend not to become those obnoxious self-righteous ex-smokers no current smoker in their right mind wants to be stuck talking to or worse, end up becoming. This is probably because you don't have to reinforce your decision to quit because you won't feel like you're missing out on something if you're not smoking. :) Thanks a million, Allen Carr!

Quit or your money back? Get outta here...

My therapist told me that there was a quit-smoking program that had a "quit or your money back" guarantee. Needless to say, I was pretty intrigued so I read the book.

First off, let me say that the guarantee doesn't apply to buying the book. It only applies to the seminars that Allen Carr offers.

That being said, I have to say that this guy must be the greatest salesman ever because he just talks you into quitting. Before I read this book, I tried gum, patches and build down and struggled with each of them before failing. After reading this book I just stopped smoking a pack and a half per day with barely a craving.

The whole book is just him talking about changing your perspective on smoking. No scare tactics, just an analysis of the media image of smoking and some the way addicts percieve addiction. There are excercises like smoking mindfully that are actually pretty funny (sort of black humor).

He recommends that you keep smoking while you read the book and I took about two weeks to read it. By the time I finished it, I was sort of relieved that I didn't have to smoke again. Six months later I still haven't, even though I live with someone who smokes three packs each day.

Seriously, at $15 you can't go wrong here. At worst, you'll be out a few bucks. At best, the list of things you gain is too long. Self respect, money, lung capacity...
-By William C. Everett (Asheville, NC United States)

Incredible

I read this book in about three days. After finishing it, I three away my package of cigarettes and haven't looked back since. This book was recommended by a friend of mine who also quit after reading this book. I cannot say enough about it. I think that quitting smoking is one of the the best decisions anyone can make for themselves.
-By Daniel Coughlin (Seattle, Wa United States)

I quit!

Amazing.Yes, you can smoke while reading this book! My wife turned me on to this after she read it and stopped smoking. 25 years of smoking for me......finished.

Eventually you will question why you are smoking and that is the beauty of it! Allen Carr covers just about every thought in a smokers head about the addiction and basically ends up asking the questions that you will end up asking yourself! And even now, when the 1 though pops in my head to smoking there are a 1000 reasons not too.

Try it......you have nothing to lose!
-By Moselle (Erie NY)

Don't quit any other way! (Seriously!)

If you actually want to stop smoking easily and stop for EVER, you should read this review then obtain a copy of this book, I CANNOT STRESS IT ENOUGH!!! :)

I had only been smoking for 5 years, not long to most 20+ years smokers, yet, it's all the same symptom... Psychological brainwashing.

Let me explain: Smoking is a very subtle trap, people who have successfully quit using the methods in this book now understand this (and I'm sure the manufactures know this too)

It is basically not known to smokers themselves, yet smokers brainwash themselves (lets look at a basic definition of brainwashing for a second: To make one believe something about a thing, person, place etc, that is not true, to become true to the person and to distort and change one's view or perception about it)

This brainwashing is the most powerful I, myself have ever seen, basically because it is done by the person themselves and by no one else. It is similar to telling yourself that you can eat fatty foods, binge eat, miss meals and still be healthy, why?; Because the effects are not apparent to you, nor anybody else who doesn't understand the basics of nutrition. Even when you are told so by others, even experts, that what your doing is negatively effecting your health, you understand somewhat yet don't see it thus ignoring it, sorry to be basic yet it's a good example.

Over however long of a time each smoker re-enforcers this brainwashing, basically allowing them to smoke without the guilt that what they are doing is wrong, which I believe is similar to eating unhealthy foods.

So, one of the many things covered in this book is the methods on how to easily remove this brainwashing by the end of the book.

But really that's just a start, and trust me, after you have read this book you will have quit smoking in a way that is "too good to be true" Yet don't worry its all true, every last word!

This book is literally an entire manual on stopping smoking in a simple yet most powerful text. The author deserves much more credit than what he has, It should be the #1 resource for all smokers phoning quit lines, yet my theory is; The government and manufactures know that this method will put them out of business and lose them so much of the revenue that cigarettes creates that they are very very afraid, (I personally know that I would be if I were in their shoes)

I honestly could write a 5 or so page review on this book because I believe it is revolutionary, yet will spare your time and effort.

One last comment; After you have successfully used this method (don't doubt it, it works) Inform almost ANY smoker who has quit using the cold turkey or willpower method about this book, how it helped you to quit simply and easy, and tell them to give it a look just for the sake of it, step back 3 to 5 steps and wait for their reaction... Simply hilarious how reformed smokers act about something they gave up many many years ago! Wait and see. ;)

God bless Mr Carr!

(Excuse me for my bad English, I'm French)

I smoked one pack a day during 25 years. I was sure dying with a cigaret inside my mouth. Quiting was not for me. I tried so many times... Failing, failing, failing.

That simple little book, that you can get for about 10$ in Canadian dollars, changed totally my life. I didnt suffer after quiting. Never. I entered inside a joyfull new life, with pride, confidence and calm. My ennemi went to garbage forever. That cigaret...

I wonder a lot about why that book is not in all the radio, TV stations, why doctors dont talk to us about it. Does the big industries of tobacco block that miraculous solution about not buying anymore their ticket to death?????

I did it. I was the worst smoker of Canada. I did it, because of that book. You will see, it's so easy. Just light a cig, open that book and read. When you will turn the last page, you will see, you will wonder why you put all that smoke inside yourself during years. You will understand. And you will enter inside a big, big zone of happiness.

Thank you very much Mr Carr, you cant imagine how many lifes you save...... You are inside my prayers.

It absolutely works!!

Since April 15, 2001 I have been a non smoker (after a pack a day habit) thanks to Easyway. Of all my addictions, I thought smoking would be the hardest to conquer. It was, is ended up being the easiest and this is direct due to this book.

It's brilliant. To take it one step further, the concepts Allen Carr explains in this book can be applied to many other problems.

Bottom line, don't think about it twice. KNOW that this is the way to do it. Follow the instruction, even if they don't make sense at first. Just do it!!

10 stars if they'd let me!

I actually read this at the local library for free (does it get any better??).

Came over to Amazon to see what others thought about it and I am quite happy that other readers had the same success that I had. I'm a former 17 year smoker and quit all together by the time I finished the 2nd chapter of the book. The best part is realizing how effective the EASYWAY really is. Any slight twinge I felt would be welcomed as a healing pain. Carr describes this as a subtle restless, empty feeling. Tobacco companies have spent Hundreds of Millions of Dollars to CONVINCE you that quitting is hard, uncomfortable, and torture. My healing pains were very slight, short lived, and welcomed after I understood the mental score.

Now, when I see a smoker, I just feel for them and hope they find their way one day.

In addition to Carrs' book, I supplimented with a semi-cheezy Bob Griswold self-hypnosis CD which I figured couldn't hurt. Patches, gum, or Zyban did not work for me, this book helped me to understand why.

I no longer smoke and life is TRULY improved. I know it is scary to picture yourself as a non-smoker attending the usual smoking occassion (pubs, socializing, lunch breaks, relaxing, etc). But, trust me, you do not have to suffer a slow death to enjoy normal life. EVERYTHING is better without nicotine and tobacco, EVERYTHING.

Stop wasting life and order this book (better yet, go to the library and read it for free!!!)

Slow suffocation is a LOUSY way to go.

Someone give this man a medal.

10 years I smoked, 1 - 2 packs a day, and in spite of several attempts to quit, and thoughts of hypnotism, I decided I quite liked smoking, and that was that.

Never in a million years did I think this would work. I didn't even want to quit. I only read it cos my sister gave it to me and I'd run out of other books. (Although it worked for her, and the person who gave it to her...)

3 days I took to read it, thought it was all a bit obvious and that I could have written it myself, and was still seriously skeptical when I finished it.

But here's the thing.... that was last June. And I still haven't had even one puff of a cigarette. Nor do I want one. In fact after 9 months, I think smoking's kind of gross. It smells horrible, it interferes with your day, and it truly is like kissing an ashtray.

How did this happen? You stopped me instantly, Mr Carr, and I didn't even want to stop! So strange. So amazing. Never have the thoughts of one man had such a massive, and such a permanent, impact on my life.

I salute this man. The governemt should give a copy of this book to every smoker. The tobacco industry would collapse within the week.

It truly truly works. Buy it.
